The 99th Commemoration of the March 1 Independence Movement
was held in the auditorium of the First Korean Church in Rhode Island at 2 pm
Sunday, March 4, 2018. Following pledge allegiance to the Korean flag, sing the
national anthem, and observe a moment of silence, Kim Ji-sun at the URI read
the Declaration of Independence of Korea. President Monica Lee recalled the old poetry, "will
the spring coming even in the lost fields?" Next, Boston Consul General
Yonghyun Kim read the South Korean President's message. For the special lecture "Recall of Independence
Movement of March 1 and Our Commitment", Dr. Choongsi Lee, spoke about the
Movement, the Declaration of Independence, and the painful struggle. Lastly,
Jeongwook Jeong, Chairman of the RI Korean Senior's Association, shouted three
times for "Long live Korean Independence!"
After the commemoration ceremony, there was a social dinner
with prepared Korean food at the Church. We want to express our gratitude to
all of you who attended the commemoration ceremony and the First Korean Church,
who hosted the service and the dinner.
