Attached please find the current job postings for our Paratransit Operator and our Paratransit CDL Training Program. The Paratransit division acts as our feeder into our Fixed Route Operator positions. Because we are a union shop, current union employees have first opportunity to fill the vacancies in Fixed Route.
The Paratransit Operator position requires the candidate to possess an active Class B CDL driver’s license with Passenger, Air Brake and General Knowledge endorsements to qualify for interview. The candidate must posses a clear driving history and a clear Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) history as well.
If selected for interview, the candidate will go through an oral interview and will then move to the next step, which is a computer and written assessment. If the candidate is selected from the interview process, we send out a conditional offer of employment letter outlining certain tasks the applicant must complete before being scheduled for a date of hire. The tasks are the candidate must provide RIPTA with an original copy of a most recent BCI, pass a nationwide background check conducted by RIPTA’s outside company, pass a DOT pre-employment physical, pass a drug and alcohol test and have satisfactory reference responses.
The Paratransit Operator CDL Trainee is an at-will position while the candidate is training for their CDL driver’s license. This is a four week paid training program in which the candidate will work with RIPTA’s Training Department to train for their CDL driver’s license. At the end of the four weeks, the candidate is taken for their road skills test. As long as they pass the test on the Friday, they become a RIPTA Paratransit Operator the following Monday. The candidate is responsible for securing their own Class B CDL driver’s license permit with Passenger, Air Brake and General Knowledge permits prior to beginning the pre-employment process. The candidate is also responsible for all costs associated with the licensing, permits, written and road skills testing. The do not have to have the CDL or CDL permit to be called to interview. The candidate does have to possess a clear driving history and clear BCI history. The interview process is the same for the CDL Trainee as it is for the Paratransit Operator.
We also have available positions other than driver positions. We are also hiring for Mechanics and Utility Workers. All open positions can be found on our careers page, http://www.ripta.com/careers. There is an on-line application as well.
We try to schedule monthly on-site job fairs so applicants can come by to ask questions, get some RIPTA swag, fill out job applications and take the computer and written assessment. Our next job fair is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12th, 2022 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at our 705 Elmwood Avenue Providence facility.
We keep a listing of outside contacts so when new jobs post I send out the posting to them as well. If you would like, we can add you to my contact listing so you would receive any job fair notifications and posted jobs. Let us know.
