KAARI T-Shirt Context Winner is Heejin Kim!
Heejin Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Miami, Florida. She attended Rhode Island School of Design and has since resided in Providence. Heejin is a painter and a designer who lives in Providence.
Heejin describes her winning design as "a more contemporary redesign of the already existing KAARI logo. The anchor imagery symbolizes Rhode Island and is more abstracted and simplified. The simple design alludes to traditional Korean patterns (한국 전통 문양 - 기하문). The Taegukgi motif, symbolizing Korea, is further emphasized by the pointy ends of the anchor, which reference the black ribbons in the Taegukgi. One of Korea's proudest inventions is our language, Hangul. She added the Korean name of the organization to the design to show our pride in our language."
Heejin's design will be printed on t-shirts and available for pick up at the Sounds of Korea event (soundsofkorea.eventbrite.com). If you would like to pre-order your T-shirt, so we don't run out of size, please write to us (info@rikorean.org) stating how many shirts you would like to order and in what sizes. Sizes are Adult Men's S-M-L-XL-2XL-3XL-4XL-5XL. No youth sizes are available at this time.
T-shirts will be sold for $20 each, which is the cost to print and ship them.
