Gregg’s Restaurant
Hello my name
is Bongsup Cho, President of the Korean American Association of RI. I would like to say a few words on behalf of
my fellow Korean Americans in RI.
We are here on this Memorial
Day of 2016 to remember the fallen soldiers from the Korean War, about 66 years
ago now. The War was often dubbed as a
forgotten war and it was a hard, awful, and dreadful one that had taken lives
of over 60,000 American soldiers, including those unaccounted for. In total, the war took away over 2.3 million
precious lives. Among them are 44 Rhode
Islanders whose images are etched in this beautiful memorial. Because of your courage and
sacrifice, Korea is a full-blown democratic country. Because of your sacrifice, Korean people are
enjoying freedom. Because of your
sacrifice, Korean Americans like us are able to realize American dreams. On behalf of the Korean
American Community of Rhode Island, I thank you for all the sacrifices you have
made with your own lives to preserve the freedom of America, the country of
Korea and the Korean people. Freedom is
not free, indeed. We must not and will not
forget your sacrifices. I promise you
that each year we, the Korean War Veterans of RI and the Korean American
Community, will work together for this Memorial Day commemoration and, even
after we are gone, our children and grandchildren will continue this beautiful
tradition. Thank you very much.
