Dear Korean Americans of Rhode
Island, The long-awaited grand opening
of the Korean-American Association of RI (KAARI) Culture Center was held on
Friday, Sep 29, 2017. The opening ceremony was well attended by KAARI members,
community leaders, and many guests and neighbors. The opening ribbon-cutting
ceremony was attended by special guests Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, US
Congressman Jim Langevin, and Senator Jack Reed's Community Affairs Coordinator
Eric Arcand. All wished for the prosperity and well-being of the KAARI Cultural
Center and community. Consul General Songjun Ohm, from the Boston Korean
Consulate, as well as Deputy Consul General Sunghwan Kwon, presented the gift
of a wall clock in addition to their congratulations. Several local dignitaries also
traveled from afar to attend and celebrate the opening ceremony: Eunkyoung Cho,
President of the Korean American Association of New Hampshire, Mija Yoon,
President of the National Unification Advisory Council of Boston, and Kyunghae
Lee, President of Korean American Citizens of League of New England, KAARI representatives Bongsup
Cho, Dongsoo Lee, William Park, Angela Sharkey, Heemong Kim, Dongsuk Ok,
Wonjung Lee, and Ilsuk Ko were also present to help celebrate the long-awaited
opening of the KAARI Center. To everyone in the KAARI
community, we have finally reached our goal of acquiring a Korean American
Cultural Center that the founders of the KAARI started 37 years ago. Their care
and love for the Association will now have a cultural center that shall be
passed on to our future generations. We want to extend our sincere
gratitude to all the members who have been crucial in helping with the opening
ceremony despite their busy schedules. The opening ceremony is the culmination
of the fantastic efforts of many people working together as a team. We look
forward to creating a lasting legacy with the Korean American Cultural Center
