Since purchasing the KAARI Community Center in 2016, we've been using it for various purposes, including regular events and meetings for community engagement. Over the years, we've addressed various issues and improved the building, making it more accessible. This includes installation of new roof shingles, heat pumps, solar panels, and other home sealing improvements, among other upgrades. The funding for these projects comes from a combination of RI Expansion Arts Programs, RISCA grants, grants from the Korean Oversea Foundation, as well as home insurance, rental income, and donations.
The KAARI Community Center building is over 80 years old. The old steel pipe drainpipes have occasionally become clogged, causing inconveniences. However, the high cost of repairs has kept us from making any progress. Fortunately, sufficient funds have been raised this year, allowing us to carry out the sewer drainage repairs. The detailed cost breakdown is below.
Overseas Korean Foundation Grant: $7,000
Insurance Company: $6,670
Building Committee Fund: $1,920, GEM Pipe Inspection + $475, Toilet Repair)
Total Sewer Repair Project Cost: $16,065
The repair project entails opening a portion of the basement kitchen floor and replacing the rusted, worn-out old drainpipe with a plastic layer (60 feet) to cover the entire pipe. Although it was a relatively large project, we successfully completed the project using new technology, making it almost like new. The warranty is for 10 years.
