The Korean American Association of Rhode Island (KAARI) co-sponsored the 2nd RI Korean Festival on Saturday, September 28, 2024, with RISCA and the Overseas Koreans Foundation.
This event, held in the form of a bullock party, was an event with the central concept of introducing Korean culture and getting together with the local community. There were games that everyone, regardless of age, could enjoy, such as watching a gayageum performance, playing various traditional Korean games (trying on Hanbok, tug-of-war, calligraphy, ttakjichigi, jaegichagi, Hangul experience, and making a shield kite). There were also prizes for the spicy ramen eating competition, jegichagi, and tuho competition so participants could compete.
This event was held for the second time since May of last year. The introduction of new games by the next generation, Joseph Lee, Jeffrey Yoo Waren, and Andre Lee Bassuet, was outstanding. Joe oversaw the match, and the event MC and Jeff presented a shield-making experience and exhibited a hand-made carrier, attracting attention. Andre explained and let people experience the Korean language using Lego, which attracted much attention. We look forward to the future activities of the next generation and sincerely thank them for volunteering at the event with new ideas.
This year, we created a Korean street food stall and provided free samples of dumplings, tteokbokki, and cup ramen.
We express our deepest gratitude to all KAARI members and volunteers who generously donated their talents and time to prepare this event.
